Catching Up

Let's see, I haven't written on here since the Fourth of July so - that would be 18 days ago - wow!!! Who would have thought it would be so hard to keep this up to date? :-) My mom and sister came two weekends ago and we had a blast! My sister just recently had her downstairs totally remodeled and shared a few of her decorating tips that she had learned from her interior decorator!!! So, we all worked diligently on getting my home decorated and making lists of items that need to be purchased! We shopped and ate and had a blast!! It is always so much fun when we all get together! So, I have still been working hard puklling everything together. The sump pump has been put in and we are now waiting for the drywall, paint, and carpet to be put back in place which starts next week. The girls and I are traveling to Tennessee for a week and a half so, hopefully, the basement will be completed when we return and we can unpack the "basement" boxes!!!! Oh, there is a light at the end of the tunnel!! I can see it now! Well, many of you have asked to see some pictures of our new home so, here are a few pictures of the downstairs... I will update more once we return from Tennessee! Enjoy!!!

Recovering after July 4th

Well, we are getting into the swing of things around here. We had a great time on July 4th at the firework display at Festival Park in High Point, NC. The girls loved the fireworks and staying up late :-)! I will post some photos on here... Erik and I worked on the house on Sunday finishing unloading boxes in his closet and hanging a new ceiling light in our bedroom since our bed (canopy) was too high for the ceiling fan. We had already moved it to Sophia's room so, no extra work there! I continued to organize - wow, what a job!!! I am making a list of drawer organizers that I need to purchase for around the house - it is growing quickly!!! Today Sophia and I started working on the basement - we can't do much at the moment because we are waiting on the weatherproof guys to come on Wednesday to install a sump pump in the basement as a precaution - better to be safe than sorry so - the unpacking of the basement has been halted for a week or two. So, we just filled in the bookshelves and when Erik got home - he and I organized all of the boxes since the movers pretty much just put them in the basement in no particular order as to bar, scrapbooking, toys, bathroom, etc.!

I am going to post pictures on here of the house (many of you have asked me to) but I am waiting until the rooms are complete - I would like to hang pictures, etc. I also had an interior designer come last week to help me with the layout of some of the rooms and help with decorating them - I am very excited about the possibilities!!! Can't wait to hear from her this week! Also, my mom and sister are coming on Thursday and I am looking forward to their visit!!! Can you say FUN, FUN, FUN!!!!

Enjoy your evening!!!

Catching Up

Oh, a moment to write on the blog... The movers arrived at 6:45 am on Monday morning and we were ready to jump right in! By noon, more than half of the truck was unloaded and our new home looked more like a storage unit than a "home". The movers had to rent a penske truck to actually "shuttle" our furniture from the bottom of our driveway to the top so that added an interesting little twist to it all! By 5pm - the movers were done and gone! So, then the fun really started! Erik came home from work around noon and we were able to start unpacking while the movers placed the rest of teh stuff where it went. So, by the end of Monday, the kitchen was almost done, the master bedrrom was mostly done and Sophia's room was complete! day one - Done!!!
Then it was on to Tuesday, the third party folks showed up to uncrate and set up the Grandfather clock, televsions, washer/dryer and a few large pictures. While they were working on that, I finished the kitchen, dining room and unpacking Cooper's bedroom. I then took a shopping break to purchase a few items for the girls' rooms. I am loving the shopping around here!!!
Wednesday - I worked on the guest room, the master bedroom and finished decorating Cooper's room. Erik started building the girl's new play house outside for their big surprise when they return from their grandparent's house!

Thursday - On Thursday, I tried to clean most of the areas in the home and started on the bathrooms - trying to organize everything in this house has certainly been an interesting task! But one I am determined to tackle!!! Erik left work at noon and continued building the house for the girls. He finished all but the door and front porch and we decided to clean up and go have dinner. Of course, we went to Lowe's for what felt like the 100th time since we have moved here for a few more items for the play house and then to dinner at Outback. We were expecting our first guests Thursday night - the McPhauls. Yep - couldn't go long without seeing them!!! Of course, they arrived on their own schedule - at 3AM!!!! LOL!!! We visited for a moment before tucking ourselves in for another 4 hours of sleep!
Friday - It wouldn't be NC if you didn't go to Krispy Kreme for HOT donuts! So, Erik and Hoyt were out this morning bright and early! We all enjoyed in the great breakfast food of NC! Erik and John worked on the play house alittle more before they took the boys on a hike through the woods to the tree house - of course, they were much more excited about that than the play house! BOYS!!! :-) So, they hit the road around 11 am heading to Franklin, NC. Erik and I began working again on our tasks! He finished the playhouse around 2:30 pm and I went out to run errands for our cook out that evening with Erik's family and to get some balloons for the house! Erik's parents arrived around 5pm with the girls and they were so excited about everything!!! They absolutely loved the playhouse!
We grilled burgers and hot dogs and celebrated an early 4th of July wih Aunt Deby and FarMor and FarFar. We all had a great time! and even burned a few sparklers before the end of the night!

So, until next time!
:-) Heather

Sunday - isn't that the day of rest???

Well, not around here anyway... We are back hard at work! The shelves have been put in nicely in the kitchen caninets and they look great! Even if I did do them myself!!! lol! We painted Cooper's room this morning but decided after a coat of satin paint that we definitely needed another, so off to Lowe's I went - about the 5th trip in two days and I still forgot to pick up a couple of small brushes to finish out the painting that we did in the den week before last. So, trip number 6 before the end of the day! I am really hoping Cooper's room turns out nicely with the second coat, that satin paint is very different than the eggshell!! Erik is starting on the second coat now... (yes, he is working while I am blogging) :-). We also cleaned out the workshop area off of the basement so it is ready to take in all of the new things coming tomorrow (Erikis tools mostly). We filled the back of the Yukon with stuff to take to the dump - oh, yea- gotta figure out where the dump is! Let me find my Things to Do List again...
I am already missing the girls but know that if they were here we would not have gotten as much done :-)! This house is very quiet without them though!!! I love to hear their echoes in this empty home. So, I will be looking forward to Friday! Guess we'll get some good sleep tonight since the movers will be here tomorrow at 8am with all of our stuff!

Getting Ready for Move In Day

Today is Saturday and Erik and I are hard at work! The girls are at their grandparent's home in Wilson, NC for the week - aren't Grandparents great!!!!! :-) And Erik and I are working hard to get the house ready for move in day!
Let's see, where do we begin... Bright and early this morning we removed the chandeliers that were in the dining room and replaced them with the ones from the den - now I need to find something to put in the den :-) of course! I also decided that I wanted to paint the inside of my cabinets another color because they all have lead glass in the front of them so you can see through and the pepto bismol pink just wasn't cutting it for me... So, I started kilzing all of the shelves from the cabinets this morning and have kilz'd all of the inside of the cabinets as well as painted the insides of all of the cabinets and almost have finished painting all of the shelves a beautiful blue/gray which matches the gray backsplash perfectly :-)! I am feeling like I am on HGTV - but one of the shows where the owners do all of the work unfortunately!!!! Erik and I then taped Cooper's room after removing a built-in shelving unit - hard work!!!! and Erik and his sister, Deby, came over to help and they put the first coat of kilz on it. erik is now putitng the second coat on while I am hard at work writing on this blog... ah...
So, until later...

On the Road Again

Well, today is the first day in our new home! The moving company finished loading all of our belongings yesterday at 5pm. The girls and I had dinner with some very close friends and then said goodbye to more of our closest friends - can we say.... waaaaay too many tears shed last night! We loaded up the car with our bags and Hoyt of course, and headed to High Point at 7:45 last night and arrived at our new home at 12:00 midnight. I was very glad to arrive! Put the girls to bed and unloaded the car before calling it a night! We have had a great first day hanging out here... We had lunch at McAllister's Deli - one of my all time favorite places - take sme back to my college days at the Bulldog Deli and you can't beat the sweet tea!!! I am beginning to remember the real south!!! I guess I missed it more than I realized, it has been 8 years since I have really lived in the south... and when I saw the magnolias blooming in our front yard today... I realized how happy I am to be back home! About time to call it a day... more tomorrow!

The MOVE

Well, we are now in Day Two of the packing. They packed the study, dining room, kitchen, and family room yesterday and the basement and garage today. They are planning on doing the upstairs and outdoors tomorrow. I have already taken my camera to High Point or I would take pictures to post on here of all of the craziness!! I really can't believe this is happening! I live in the present most of the time, I don't spend alot of time worrying about the past or thinking about the future so, when it actually becomes the present - I am sometimes surprised... like now...
I am very excited about the possibilities of living in High Point but, I will miss my friends in Winchester dearly. This is honestly the true definition of BITTERSWEET! It is definitely proving to be the hardest move so far (and that says alot when you have moved 4 times in 8 years). The girls are doing great with the whole thing - Cooper really doesn't totally understand what is going on (although I think she knows something is going on since she woke me up crying four times last night) and Sophia is doing very well. She has had many playdates over the past few days and I believe this is helping her to say goodbye in her own way. I dread certain parts of the day everyday b/c I know I will run into someone or see someone for the last time and I am finding myself in tears more often now...

So, until tomorrow... a new day...

Our New Home

Here are a couple of pictures of our new home. I am VERY excited about moving to North Carolina (a little further south) and I love our new home... It takes me back to growing up in Mississippi with the large porch, white columns and mostly, the three magnolias in the front yard. Can't wait to move in and make it OUR home!

Family

This is a picture from our Princess and Pirate celebration at our church of my beautiful family! Today is Father's Day and I have truly been blessed with a wonderful husband and father! He loves being a great Dad and the girls love him dearly! He inspires me daily to be the best parent I can possibly be and I love hime even more for that!!!
Well, where do I start??? I am so new at this but so many of my friends have been blogging for years... I thought I would give it try! I am exited about starting this blog and moving to our new home in High Point, NC in the same week!!! So, here we go...
